Nemesis Foundation

We support the idea of open science

How do we help?

The Foundation was established in 2023 to promote broadly understood scientific and charitable activities. We support the idea of open science. We believe that knowledge cannot be reserved for a select few. Most research in Europe is publicly funded, and therefore access to research results should be as wide as possible.

Negative results are a niche part of publications in scientific research, although most research, before it is successful, it’s built on errors and mistakes. We strongly believe that sharing all failures is a truer reflection of science. We also believe that disclosing negative results will help others save themselves the trouble and learn from their mistakes, which is especially important in medicine.

Why "Nemesis" ?

Nemesis stands for Negative Effects in Medical Sciences. Since 2018, there is a scientific journal whose purpose is to publish peer-reviewed scientific articles in the field of maxillofacial surgery. One of the goals of the foundation is also the promotion of the scientific journal.

Publication of negative results is crucial for the advancement of science, above all, it prevents duplication of effort. In a situation where researchers are only allowed to publish positive results, there is a risk of wasting time and resources repeating experiments that have already failed.

Negative results can also provide valuable information about what is not working, which can guide future research. Above all, help to avoid making the same mistakes, which is especially important in medicine. The road to victory almost always leads through many failures, sacrifices and discouraging trials.

Another reason why publishing negative results is important is that it promotes transparency and accountability in scientific research. When researchers are only allowed to publish positive results, they may be more likely to engage in selective reporting, data and image manipulation, or other unethical practices.

Statutory goals

Our statutory goals are primarily a broadly understood scientific activity, promoting education and education in the field of medicine and dentistry. We would like to bring science, specific knowledge, and scientific publications to a wider audience.

Cooperation

We invite doctors and dentists, maxillofacial surgeons and orthodontists who want to share their results to cooperate with us. We have extensive experience in publishing scientific articles in dental radiology as well as in oral and maxillofacial surgery.

About

Prof. Raphael Olszewski is a professor of medicine. He graduated from dentistry (1996, UCLouvain), medicine (2001, UCLouvain), specialization in oral and maxillofacial surgery (2006), PhD degree (UCLouvain 2008), post-doc in 2008 (at the radiology laboratory of Brigham and Women Hospital, Harvard University). For two years he was a visiting professor at Collegium Medicum, where he obtained his habilitation in medical sciences (UJ, 2017). Prof. Raphael Olszewski has been the editor-in-chief of the NEMESIS journal since 2018.
